"Some shy, some crazy, some nervous, some bold"
The Community Company are not content with just one Grapes of Wrath poem, oh no. Here's Karen Caird's excellent poem about her experiences.
THE GRAPES OF THE WRATH
The ‘Grapes of Wrath’ and the rehearsal plan A logistical nightmare, for woman and man.
That woman and man, being Elly and Neil
Our directors, our captains, of this ship and its keel.
A cast of many, from young to old,
Some shy, some crazy, some nervous, some bold.
From prologue to end and scene twenty five, It’s a Goddamn wonder, that we’ll all survive.
Rosa keeps tabs, are you free are you not?
I can do Friday and that’s yer lot!
Some can do Monday and Thursdays are best, Tuesdays are out, oh, to hell with the rest.
We all pull together, filling in where we can, The story develops, bout crossing the lan’
The Joads, the Jalopy and the dust bowl curse, Ma, pa, the kids and a big empty purse!
There’s sadness and laughter and weakness and strength, A family united, to travel this length.
Dancing and singing to Scott and his band, Guitar and washboard, ukulele in hand.
We watch and we wonder, we prepare for our show, It opens this week. How will it go?
We’ve practiced each scene; we all know our bits, This Community Cast of the Wonderful Citz.
Karen Caird
Brilliant Karen...thanks! By the way, I added some extra photos to the Grapes of Wrath set on Flickr today. Check the out here.
