An ode to The Grapes of Wrath

Our Community Company are an exceedingly talented bunch, they not only excel in acting, but as you'll see if you're coming to the show this week, also in music.

But their talents don't stop there; company stalwart Patricia, who is an avid writer, penned the following poem during the run up to The Grapes of Wrath:

Blind by the dust's choking,
We had to keep moving along.
A prayer in our heart we'd keep hoping
That the family'd survive and be strong.

Thousands of us travelled on nothing,
2,000 miles or more.
Just wanted the chance to be working,
Feed our country as we had done before.

Unlike the cattle that eat up our rich grazing land,
We were driven but we weren't fed.
Hundreds born along the way,
But much more of us starved and dead.

By Patricia Preston
(who is playing Ma Joad in The Grapes of Wrath).

The show runs for 5 performances only this week from Wed 19 - Sat 22 June. Here's a slideshow of some rehearsal photos to whet your appetite.
